New York, New York. Where are all my NYers? I'm back again with another Sip, Savor, and Review of a coffee shop featuring: 787 Coffee Co. 787 is dubbed as "Puerto Rico's finest". If you're like me, it's the 787 area code that first catches your eye and you make an immediate connection to la Isla. This is what lured me in. The service, food, and, of course, the coffee are top notch. Let me tell you a bit about my experience.
ou'll find a Starbucks or Dunkin' just about everywhere in NYC, but if you limit yourself to these major brands, you're missing out on a whole other world of coffee experience in the city. So, if you take away anything from this, explore the vast, sophisticated, and varied world of indie coffee shops throughout NYC. If you're not a NYer, that's ok too, explore the indie shops in your area, and let's chat about what the best is. I need cities to visit and new coffee shops to experience.
Now let's get back Back to 787 Coffee Co. I hoped on the downtown 5 train and got off at Bowling Green. I was coffee starved, but determined to find something other than a crowded Starbucks. To my surprise I saw "the 787". (For reference this was Coffee Shop Five at 66 Pearl St.) I went in, and I was not disappointed.
Coffee Shop Five had ample seating, wasn't over crowded, and had a nice chill vibe. To the right was the barista stand and straight ahead was a taqueria (yes, a taco stand, I know right!). The tacos are legit, by the way. I came back same day for lunch and had some, I do recommend them. I also want to shoutout the service at this coffee shop, which I can only assume is consistent throughout the chain. Since I discovered 787 Coffee Co. in mid 2022, I've gone no less than 20 times (that number may seem low, but I'm also not downtown everyday...so it's pretty significant). I keep going back because the service is great, and the coffee is too, let's talk about that now.
I have my normal - a cappuccino quad shot - and it's consistently well rounded and smooth. Their drip coffees are flavorful - because they aren't burnt. It's a nice medium roast. If you're needing a feel of la Isla, you can go for their Iced Coquito Latte. I'm not a fan of overly sweet things, but this was nice and balanced. I have not yet tried their infused coffees, but they seem interesting, and I may splurge one day.
All-in-all, this is a solid coffee shop worth experiencing if you're in NYC or PR. Grab your favorite coffee and have a breakfast taco (it's amazing).
If you have a coffee shop you'd like me to visit and review shoot me a message or connect with me on the social media channels. Until next time, keep elevating your coffee experience!
